Open-records investigation · Updated 10 July 2026

Who is behind the
Freedom Fuel Network?

In early July 2026, 25 gas stations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey rebranded to “Freedom Fuel” and began selling gasoline below cost — days after President Trump praised them on Truth Social. Every major outlet reported the owners were unidentified. Using only public records, we identified them.

The finding

It isn’t one company. It’s a brand laid over independent dealers.

The 25 stations do not share a common owner. County and state records resolve them to three operator groups plus a set of standalone dealers, sitting on two kinds of landlord. “Freedom Fuel” is a branding layer — and each station’s prior brand tracks its operator.

That already goes past the public reporting. Snopes, the Philadelphia Inquirer, ABC and CBS all said the owners could not be identified. Below is who they are, each tied to the record that shows it.

  • 3operator groups + standalones
  • 8prior brands rebranded over
  • 1coordinating owner — still concealed

An important note. Everyone named here is, on the public record, an ordinary gas-station owner or operator. Nothing on this site alleges wrongdoing by any of them. What is genuinely unknown — and what this investigation is about — is who organized the network, and who, if anyone, is financing below-cost gas. Claims are labeled verified, inferred, or unresolved, and every station links to its source.

The operators

Four groups the press couldn’t name

Each was reconstructed from property assessments, the PA storage-tank registry (which names the tank operator), state business filings and federal court records.

Syan / Amar — “Gas N Go”

6 stationsverified · human named

Six stations, all previously Gas N Go, trace to one family group of companies. In the PA storage-tank registry, every one of their tanks lists the same mailing hub — 1013 Matthew Way, New Castle, Delaware — across the entities SYAN I INC SYAN INVESTMENT LLC SYAN BROS LLC AMAR REALTY LLC ISHAR INC. The same hub also holds gas stations that are not on the Freedom Fuel list. The name Raj Syan appears on the Delaware County tax records. A related individual, Gurinder Syan — a New Castle, DE real-estate investor whose reported business ZIP matches a Syan-owned station — is a probable principal.

Blue Owl — the landlord

8 stationsverified

Eight former Sunoco sites are owned by MOUNTAIN PORTFOLIO OWNER PA LLC and …OWNER NJ LLC — vehicles of Blue Owl Real Estate Fund V (the fund formerly known as Oak Street), an institutional sale-leaseback landlord in Chicago. This isn’t inference: the NJ entity is the named plaintiff in 2024 federal eviction suits against its dealer-tenants — 6801 Tilton Rd Inc (case 1:24-cv-07055) and Fams Petro LLC (case 3:24-cv-07685). Several of these dealers were behind on rent before the July-2026 rebrand. Blue Owl is the landlord — not the day-to-day operator.

Karco

3 stationsentity known

Three former Karco stations sit in single-purpose LLCs (3101 NMNBS LLC SADDI II LLC 100 Byberry LLC), each registered to its own address. The Karco brand’s operating companies — KARCO ENERGY INC and Karco Gas LLC — are based in Prospect Park, Delaware County. A related entity, “Saddi, LLC,” entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January 2026 (E.D. Pa. 2:26-bk-10034).

ONE ASR — “United”

2 stationsverified · named

The two former United-brand stations are operated by ASR STORE INC of Moorestown, New Jersey, which also runs additional United sites off the Freedom Fuel list.

Independent dealers

6 stationsverified

The rest are standalone operators of varied prior brands: Bristol Fuel Stop Inc (Valero; held by an individual, Harkamaljit S. Sangha), RIAR HR LLC (BP), AR United LLC (Liberty — itself a licensed fuel distributor tied to Ewing Oil), Fernwood Realty / R&B Oil Inc, Philadelphia Bustleton LLC (Gulf; c/o the REIT ArcTrust), and 3805 Hartzdale Dr Holdings Inc.

The money

Below cost — and no public record of who’s paying for it

Named industry analysts say the launch price was below cost. OPIS’s Tom Kloza put it at least 17¢/gallon under break-even — “jumping off a cliff.” GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan: “when losses happen, somebody’s got to pay for it.” NACS’s Jeff Lenard called it unsustainable.

We searched for the mechanism and found what isn’t there: the stations’ liens (Amar Realty, Ishar Inc) are ordinary bank and SBA loansno fuel-supplier lien. The old brands (Valero, Shell, Sunoco) have publicly cut ties; the gas now moves as unbranded product. There is no public record of any subsidy, and the price is reported to be rising — consistent with a short-term promotion, not a sustained outside subsidy.

Unresolved: whether an outside party is covering the loss, and who coordinated the rebrand. The White House says no one is subsidizing it.

“…when losses happen, somebody’s got to pay for it.”

Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy

“…jumping off a cliff.”

Tom Kloza, OPIS, on the pricing

“There is no other entity or person subsidizing the lower gasoline costs.”

The one political-money thread

A $10,000 check — to a Democrat

We ran every operator against federal (FEC) and Pennsylvania campaign-finance records. The entities are clean. One individual tie surfaced: Gurinder Syan — the probable Syan-group principal — gave $10,000 to “Citizens for Hughes,” the campaign of Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes, a Philadelphia Democrat, in April 2025 (PA Dept. of State filings). verified

Read plainly: this is ordinary local-business giving to a state Democrat. It does not connect Freedom Fuel to the Trump administration, and if anything cuts against a Trump-financed theory. We include it because the record is real — and because it firms up who the Syan people are.

What stays hidden

Every layer that would name the coordinator is shielded

  • The company. Freedom Fuel Network LLC was formed in Delaware on 23 June 2026 at the Corporation Trust Center — a mass address shared by 285,000+ companies. No owner is disclosed.
  • The trademark. Filed 1 July 2026 through a retained Staten Island attorney; the owner address is the same Delaware shell.
  • The domain. freedomfuelnetwork.com was registered 13 June 2026. Every registrant field is redacted — except one: state, New Jersey.
  • The money trail. No UCC lien names a financier; the below-cost supply arrangement leaves no public record.

The coordinating owner — the party that organized the rebrand and set the prices — is not, on current public records, identifiable. That concealment is itself a finding.

How it unfolded

Two weeks in June and July 2026

  1. freedomfuelnetwork.com is registered through Squarespace. Registrant hidden — one field left: state, New Jersey.

  2. Freedom Fuel Network LLC is formed in Delaware, at the Corporation Trust Center mass address. No owner disclosed.

  3. President Trump praises a “VERY smart Retailer” on Truth Social. A trademark is filed the same day, through a retained attorney.

  4. Prices go live at $3.47 — a nod to the 47th president.

  5. National coverage follows; every outlet reports the owners are unknown. The pump price is reported rising.
